Instead of treating it as a through-route, many liveaboards naturally break it into sections, staying longer where the moorings feel right. Let the locks and villages set the pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stretching roughly 137 miles from London\u2019s Paddington Basin to Birmingham, it\u2019s wide, purposeful, and connects countless other routes, allowing liveaboards to shape their own cruising rhythm rather than follow a fixed loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some sections feel open and expansive, built for heavy commercial traffic, while others are surprisingly intimate and filled with nature. Its working past is never far away – Camden remained operational for commercial carrying until 1967 – but the canal side always offers a genuine escape from the busy cities the canal passes through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
